JOANNA OESTMANN, Ed.D., LMHC, LPC, LPCS (Vice President and COO of OEI Consulting)

I developed a passion for teaching and for clinical supervision developed out of years of experience as a cognitive behavioral therapist. From that paradigm I believe in presenting information a variety of ways that transcend personal information blocks, values, and barriers to create opportunities for individuals to see, understand and apply new found knowledge. My organizational skills, ability to set clear goals and objectives with matching timelines, and make subject matter relevant to the individual learners career, interests, and life situations is a strength in this educational approach. In addition, I encourage students to look at issues from different perspectives, challenge them to change paradigms, expand their perspectives through coaching, provide timely feedback, interact regularly, provide positive encouragement, and demonstrate enthusiasm for the subject matter and passion in the field of study. These are the primary tenets of my teaching style and commitment to educational success.

Having the opportunity to teach people of all ages, I have found it particularly beneficial for student learning outcomes to develop a style of teaching built on understanding, as well as integration of this knowledge. As a result, these teaching style characteristics help the subject matter come to life and encourage the process of life-long learning become an existential journey where new material is adopted and implemented into each person’s life schema.
