
“CIO” Philosophy, Approach and Code of Ethics
The designation “CIO” Certified Instructor Online is the first and only
international progressive certification program for online faculty. The CIO
program philosophy is based on the proven increase in learning outcomes for
online student learners and increasing the effectiveness of online faculty. The
approach to the CIO program is based on three levels of certification:
1. CIO – A (Associate Level)
2. CIO – M (Master Level)
3. CIO – P (Professional Level)
Adherence to the “CIO” Code of Ethics
interwoven into the CIO programs and respective designations.

Summary of the
CIO Credentialing Program - a brief overview
The Purpose of the
“CIO” Certification Credentialing Program is to:
1.
Establish and administer minimum
standards for certifying and credentialing professional international online
faculty and instructors.
2.
Assure the online student learners and
educational institutions that certified faculty and instructors meet or exceed
these minimum standards.
3.
Reinforce the need to continuously
improve educational learning outcomes consistent with the accreditation
standards of the Higher Learning Commission.
The “CIO” certification credential is
awarded to professional instructors and faculty who validate that they meet or
exceed these minimum standards established by Online Educators International (
You will save yourself time, effort,
and fees if you read all of the enclosed information before completing the
application. The foundation for your success will come from your understanding
of these standards. If you find standards that you do not yet meet, give
yourself the time to fulfill these standards before making application.
To ensure that your application
receives a fair and unbiased evaluation, three (3) Certified Online Instructors
– with Professional level designation will be randomly selected to individually
review, evaluate, and rate your application. Their ratings will be used to make
a final determination regarding the awarding of your certification credentials.

CIO
– A (Associate) Minimum Requirements
The basic CIO-A designation program consists of the following requirements:
1. Successful graduation from a regionally or
internationally accredited educational institution with at least a Masters
level degree conferred. Official transcripts will need to be submitted.
2.
Successful completion of the CIO Training Certification Program (
3. Three
(3) letters of recommendations from colleagues mailed to Online Educators
International (
4.
Compliance with laws related to standardized educators code of ethics.
5. Receipt of the
$999 USD application fee and form.
6. Successful
completion of at least one Online Educators International (
CIO – M (Master) Minimum Requirements
The basic CIO-M designation program consists of the
following requirements:
1.
Successful
graduation from a regionally or internationally accredited educational
institution with a Doctoral level degree conferred. Official transcripts will
need to be submitted.
2.
Successful
completion of the CIO – A Training Certification Course provided by Online
Educators International (
3.
Three (3)
letters of recommendations from colleagues mailed to Online Educators
International (
4.
Compliance
with laws related to standardized educators code of ethics.
5.
Receipt of
the $299 USD application fee and form.
6.
Successful
completion of at least one Online Educators International (
7.
Successful
submission of two (2) peer-reviewed journal article
related to online education as approved by Online Educators International (
8.
Successful
completion of at least ten (10) online course
instruction/facilitation and/or course development or revision, or any
combination of the above. Official documentation and affidavit notarization is
required.
CIO – P (Professional) Minimum Requirements
The basic CIO-P designation program consists of the
following requirements:
1.
Successful
graduation from a regionally or internationally accredited educational
institution with a Doctoral level degree conferred. Official transcripts will
need to be submitted.
2.
Successful
completion of the CIO – A Training Certification Course provided by Online
Educators International (
3.
Three (3)
letters of recommendations from colleagues mailed to Online Educators
International (
4.
Compliance
with laws related to standardized educators code of ethics.
5.
Receipt of
the $199 USD application fee and form.
6.
Successful
completion of at least one (1) Online Educators International (
7.
Successful
submission of three (3) peer-reviewed journal articles related to online education
as approved by Online Educators International (
8.
Successful
completion of at least twenty-five (25) online course instruction/facilitation
and/or course development or revision, or any combination of the above.
Official documentation and affidavit notarization is required.
Recertification
1. The CIO-A, M and P certification credentials are
good for three (3) years and then expires at any level. In order to
maintain the right to continue using the CIO certification credentials you must
submit a recertification form and meet the requirements of recertification
before the three (3) year term expires.

CIO-P (Certified Instructor
Online-Professional) – Senior
level credential for an Online Educators International (
CIO Training Certification Program (
Online Educators Best Practices – Practices that promote optimal
learning outcomes based on peer-reviewed research studies in 7 journals;
presentations and faculty development programs in 25 online university
providers; and 12 online learning based textbooks in addition to other sources
determined to meet the criteria of “Best Practices” by the principals of Online
Educators International (
Online Educators International (
Online Faculty/Instructors – Professionals who have adjunct or full-time status affiliations
with a regional or internationally approved educators
institution and provide asynchronous, synchronous or a combination of
asynchronous/synchronous secondary educators in an online format. This includes
course delivery and/or course revision/development.
